From Antiques Trade Gazette - 'Last firing stamp adds to character'
"To mark the last firing of a traditional bottle oven in 1978, the Royal Doulton factory produced a special backstamp to apply to the base of a few otherwise ordinary character jugs [which were fired in the Last Firing.]There are only a small handful of them out there and - as Louis Taylor had found out earlier this year [2003] - they are very desirable. In June they sold a Sairey Gamp jug with this [back]stamp at £3600 against an estimate of just £30-50. ....
The large Beefeater D6206, designed by Harry Fenton usually commands around £50 but this special example was bid to £4800 ... "
